My boss takes the time to walk the production floor almost everyday and stops to talk to each of us. I know this takes a lot of his time, but it sure goes a long way with all of us to show that we count.

6. Connect the boss’s way
7. Show initiative

10. Get your face time
Has anyone tried any, or all of these, with any success? Failure? What are the lessons for others?

What motivation strategy has your boss or company tried to use that completely backfired?
Why does everything always have to be rushed? Can’t we just take the time for once to do something right? Management sets these arbitrary deadlines and makes everyone go crazy in the process. This is not motivation and it does not promote productivity.
My boss is such a pain. I come in every day and can’t wait till it’s time to go. I hope management makes some changes so we can get back to what works.
Working in a restaurant as a manager sounds like it could be a decent job, although your lucky to have a job w today’s crises w the economy, one making a shitty salary is a joke, two… managing last time I checked didn’t entail baby sitting text messaging kids and dealing with foreigners with their heads up their rear side, and three working 30 hours in three days. I cant wait to meet you 9-5 cause I’m not letting you go!
My company hires a high priced consultant whose recommendations mirror the exact suggestions we as staff have been giving management for more than a year now. What a waste of time, money and talent.
My coworkers and I have been complaining for months about the sad state of our office chairs, which could practically be considered antiques. This morning, our brand new chairs were delivered! I know it sounds like a small thing, but they are sooo comfy and will make sitting at my desk much easier to bear. Thanks for listening, boss!
I’m an HR generalist and one of the departments I oversee has a manager who loves to hear himself talk. I try to coach him, but he can’t learn to just shut up and listen once and a while. I understand that he has a lot on his plate, but his staff members are coming to me saying they feel steamrollered by his agenda and ego–and can I help them be transferred to another area within the company. A word of advice to bosses who want to keep their employees: lend them an ear. You are overlooking a lot of talent and great ideas when you live in a self-created vacuum.
